3 garden invasions in 6 months

my area seems to be rife with people creeping about gardensduring the night ...i have seen someone in neighbours garden at nightpolice managed to lose the creep and also i personally have had thingsstolen twice during the night /very ealry morningSo , the aim here is to catch the scum in the act ... i dont see camerasbeing the answer as they are expensive and having tried them in past(the cheaper models ) the pictures not great and the softwares crap andnot of it is admissable in court anywayCouple of security pir lights up but doesnt deter as they go off so many timesanyways due to foxes and catsSo i need to try and let the police catch the scum in the act , im prettysure its the same person going over the same territory every coupleof monthsMy house is a semi detached and only small fences separate a coupleof the neighbours t momentI can roughly limit access to my garden to 2 areas ,by adding terellis to top of fenceand im planning to do this anyways , but im thinking of setting up a sting type operationadn leaving two areas i could monitor remotely1) ones a wide concrete area about 8ft , driveway ..i have no ideas for thisa ful size will go up here at some point2) other is behind garage a hidden area hes been known to use for accessits covered in woodchips and im thinking mmm maybe some kind of pressurepads ( wireless i cant find ? )Ideally whatever i use has to simply make a noise in the house , not be set offby foxes/cats ? maybe be self powered ? ( batteries) that will last a couple of weeksand discrete i dont want the scum to know I know !!! hes there the aim is to catch thebam !Any ideas for kinda cheap foolproof limited area PEOPLE MONITORING ?

Yes, understood. I have a couple of Optex and the direct sunlight and wind do cause false alarms. With the realistic understanding that even Crows have false alarms, what height would you recommend? My driveway is 20' wide and 50' long. I want to mount a D&D about mid way up the driveway, facing across the 20' width, directly facing a row of 40" shrubs. What height would you recommend?

I would mount them at the standard mounting height in the specs, and a few feet back from the driveway. Also, if possible I would mount them on a post witth a shade similar to that used for meterological recording thermometers. Facing North if practical. (A north facing shade with side boards allows a thermometer to always be in the shade at any time of day or in any season in the northern hemisphere.)
