Switches Going on and Off Randomly

We bought a house that is wired with several "smart" light switches, outlets and other home automation controls. It uses an old system called Aegis (version 1.8) to control the automation. It's been working well for about a year, but just recently we've started having problems in a few of the rooms - in one the lights do not turn on at all when they are suposed to and in the other the lights go on and off, seemingly at random. I've read about weak signals in large houses with many controls, which ours is, but would that explain why extra rogue signals are being sent, or just why the 1 room isn't getting the 'on' signal? Could this be a coupling issue and would something like the SmartHome 4826b work even if I don't have a dryer plugged into my dryer outlet? thanks!
