A bellhose and bell (like a service station) works great.

There are several popular brands of magnetometer-based driveway alarms. Cartel, Mier Products, Safety Technology (STI), Sure Action and Winland are the best known. These all work the same way. A coil on the end of a long cable is buried a few inches beneath the soil next to the driveway. When a large, ferrous object passes by it disturbs the magnetic field, generating a minute electrical charge on the A processor mounted in the house senses the change, triggers a relay and/or an annunciator.

Magnetometer-based systems are fairly reliable at detecting most vehicles. They are not subject to false alarms from wildlife or weather. However, they will not detect a person on foot and they may miss a bicycle.

Another method to consider is using motion detection. Optex America makes an inexpensive, wireless motion detector and RF receiver called "Wireless 1000". This is a simple, outdoor PIR detector and matching receiver. The advantages of this approach are lower cost, simple installation and detection of people as well as vehicles. The disadvantage of PIR based driveway alarms is they can be set off by animals, blowing shrubs, etc. Careful placement can minimize problems.

You already got a message from Group Moderator shilling his alarmsuperstore site.

If you look at the posts from him and his alter ego that he uses to trash competitors and see how dish> What's a good driveway alarm?

First off, the people here are pretty "savvy" so posting "warnings" like this isn't necessary. This will only serve to ensure another "bazillion" links to Bass' BBB report and Goofysplace get posted (which is no doubt your intention). I mean there's nothing like throwin' a few more logs onto the "fire" now, is there?

What I prefer is a filwag,A filwag is very useful, but come at a high cost,it doesn't work all the time and have a kind of AI

one of the major cost is the wife, and subsequently the kids, but even for that,we have some "good time"in return..so that's why choosing the good filwag is very important...

So most of you will ask..what is in fact a filwag..well its almost the same as a milwas, but it has more brute power and AI
