A few times when I've been using Mozilla or Firefox, the program will start scrolling. I'll see the contents go up and down without my control. I'm wondering if that is a sign of being hacked.

Might be.
More likely, some javascript on the webpage is doing that.

The other possibility would be being influenced by a subspace distortion or an infinite improbability field. The latter leads to the question: is there a cup of tea next to your computer?

Possibly could be a sign of a malfunctioning mouse.
If it's a wireless mouse, try changing the batteries.

This is a known issue with Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox.
It fixes itself if you hit the ESC key. At least it does on my system.
