Does a Router Firewall Really P{rotect

With a Westall modem/router is there protection against those who scan and hack into systems. Should the router be turned off when one is not online?

Some of those tests will try to sell you products based on the result of your scan but there is no need to purchase anything. At least one of them may fail to detect your IP correctly and end up scanning your ISP's http proxy. It is advisable to know your IP address and compare it with the one the test detects.

As for hacking into systems, well, there are many ways to attempt that. Attempting to connect to the ports scanned by the above tools is just one possible way.

The above tests will show you how the router looks from the point of view of someone else on the Internet. If no problems are detected when you are online then it will be the same when you are offline so there is no need to turn off the router.
