Distributed Firewall - non-corporate nodes...

Mar 08, 2005 0 Replies

I'm currently doing some research on distributed firewall and I'm wondering about the problems associated with the deployment in a University environment where network hosts are owned by students....

Let me explain. In a corporate environment all systems are owned by the corporation, hence the system administrator can do what he likes. However, in a University environment the systems that connection to the network may not necessarily belong to the university - some will belong to students for example. Although the students need to connect to systems, they may be unwilling to abide to the security policy at all times - when they are off campus, for example.

In this scenario is it possible to deploy a distributed firewall solution?

Ben (Sorry if this post causes confusion, I'm currently trying to get my head around the whole affair!)
