VLAN filter id (fid)

Aug 05, 2010 1 Replies

Hi,

I encountered this term on a few VLAN aware devices, but can not udnerstand its exact meaning and how it correspondts to VLAN itself. So it seems it has different from Vlan ID meaning; or is it a vendor specific term?

Would appreciate any comments.

I guess it's a possibility of giving the switch a list of VLANs which are to be accepted on a port. Like the "tagged" list on a ProCurve switch and the "permit vlan" (?) option on Cisco gear (which I haven't touched in a while).

Greetings Marc
