Splitting of physical line possible for 100Mbit/s

For 100Mbit/s Ethernet using electrical physical layers, can I split the physical line (after the driver and the RJ45) and observe what has been sent to another receiver using another physical driver and ethernet chip? Would I run into physical issues or limitations like changing the impedance of the lines to level beyond what is tolerated as the pure normal point-to-point Ethernet connection would be lost? Any other issues I may encounter?

Thanks for any help, info or pointers. If the description is too informal, please let me know?

Now that is neat. New one on me.

Maybe I'll be having a wee chat with our wireman.
