Relationship between Cable core diameter and current in CAT-5

Hello, I want to know if there is any relationship between cable core diameter and current carrying capablity of CAT-5.

What is maximum voltage i can carry in the CAT-5? I saw a CAT-5 rated has 30 v(rated voltage)...doesnot it mean that i cannot carry the ringing voltage of phone through this cable???

Waiting for reply Regards, Praveen

Don't confuse current with voltage. The current capacity is determined by the wire size and voltage rating by the insulation.

I think it is more, but there are NEC regulations for low voltage cables.

Well, current is also determined by insulation, as that determines how fast heat can get out, and also what happens when it does get too hot.

Current carrying question of the day: Most electrical power is transmitted using:

a) negatively charged carriers b) positively charged carriers c) about equal negative and positively charged carriers
