Ethernet breaker...

Hi,

I need to switch on/off the communication between two ethernet devices.

Does it exist small modules with RJ45 connectirs for in/out and a small relay to short-circuit one of the signal pairs..?

Thanks for any hints on where to buy such modules / devices.

regards

Geir

Is there an echo in here? Check Google Groups.

How do you need to control the switch ??

If manually, RJ-45 A/B switches that would open and close the connection are available just about anywhere computer devices are sold.

If electrically, there are models available that can respond to +/-

12Volt (RS-232) signals, from such as BlackBox or Patton

BTW, you would not need to short the pairs, just open the connection. But an A/B switch could be wired to short one cable or the other if really necessary.

I'd have to think that such devices are not exactly Cat5 rated, much less higher. Why not put a small switch between them and just power it on and off?

Check Black Box.
