Connect cat 2950SX to Procurve 3400cl

Jan 12, 2007 1 Replies

Hi I have an Procurve 3400cl installed which has an option of 4 mini-gbics ProCurve Gigabit-LH-LC Mini-GBIC (J4860B) ProCurve Gigabit-LX-LC Mini-GBIC (J4859B) ProCurve Gigabit-SX-LC Mini-GBIC (J4858B)

Recently I bought, from a promo, two cisco 2950SX, which have 2 fixed

1000Base-SX ports.

Can I connect these two switches to the procurve?

Cisco installation manual says that "You can connect a 100BASE-FX or 1000BASE-SX port to an SC or ST port on a target device by using one of the MT-RJ fiber-optic patch cables"

Thank you. Teo

The J4858B ProCurve SX LC mini GBIC will work on SX fibre using LC connections up to 550m depending on cable used. Your 3400 will communicate to the Cisco 2950SX through the above mentioned GBIC. if the Cisco switch has SC connectors you will need SC - LC patch cables to convert.
