NM-CE modules have become pretty cheap and I was wondering whether they can be configured to serve up simple static files by http and/or ftp. I'm embarrassed to say that I can't really tell from looking at the documentation (some of which doesn't seem to be around anymore :). There is a lot about proxy and cache applications (and more complicated APIs) but nothing about simple file serving...
