Is HSRP and VRRP compitable.

Hello All,

Is HSRP and VRRP interoperable. we have a Cisco router (Cisco Catalyst 6000 Series Switches Module Switch Feature Card (MSFC)) and a Juniper router (Juniper M20 series). We have HSRP on Cisco and VRRP on juniper and is it possible that they can interoperate. Can this setup protect the same Virtual IP. If not why? if yes why?

Thanks in advance.

No. They are not compatible. Recent versions(12.2(13)T and above) of IOS support VRRP.

For the same reason the English and Japanese are not compatible. They are means of achieving the same result that were invented by different people.

hi sumanth

No HSRP is Cisco Propretary protocol, so u cannot use with other products. So u need to configure VRRP in both cisco and juniper .

Do you have any expirience with the compatibility of VRRP of Cisco and the Linux VRRPd?

Cheers
