Convert from 100 FX to 1000 SX

Jan 25, 2006 2 Replies

I need to hook up a Cisco Catalyst 2950 to a port on a Cisco 3550 24-FX switch. Since the ports on the FX are all 100 FX and the uplink port from the 2950 is 1000 SX, is there some media converter that can be used to make the connection? Any help would be appreciated. Cost is a significant consideration, so I prefer not to replace the entire switch.

I've seen someone use one of these

I think it is a couple hundred dollars when you add the cost of the fiber module. At some point you would have to decide how much you want to spend to make this solution work and what would be worth replacing that switch. Anyway, you could connect the 100FX fiber to the Linksys, and then go copper from the Linksys to the other switch.

Ghetto fabulous networking!

Is this your 3550 ...

It has two GBIC ports ... I can't see a 3550 24-FX that doesn't.

You could buy a 1000BASE-T GBIC ...
