a Strange Problem of EIGRP

Hi. everybody. My client's network was interrupted recently because his configuration on his router. ok. following is network topology.

< AS 1 >< As 65000>

R1------R2-------R3------R4 Rx /

R1, R2, R3 belongs to a large LAN, R4 at the remote HQ site. HQ site 's Eigrp AS is AS65000, Local LAN 's Eigrp AS is AS 1. R3 is a border router both in eigrp as 1 and eigrp as 65000. R2 connected to many routers include R1 and R3. R3 is a router connect to HQ network. R3 will redistribute route between As 1 and AS 65000.( As 1 routes be redistrubted to As65000, and AS 65000 routes be redistributed to As1)

In 12 o'clock. my client run no distribute-list command at R2 router. some command likes "no distribute-list out xx" "no distribute-list out yy" xx and yy are interfaces that connect to other router . for example . xx connect to R1 and yy connect to Rx.

after paste these two command to R2's console. almost all eigrp neighbors are restart except R3. but at this time. some thing has happened. All route from AS 65000 route was disappeared. After waiting for 16 minutes. AS 65000 routes still could recover. So my client manually clear eigrp neighbor with R3. then routes from AS65000 recover. the following is R3's logging information.

because router's clock is adjust properly. so the time is later than normal.

Jun 5 11:56:16.692: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 65000: Neighbor

1xx.50.20.1 (Serial1/0/1) is down: holding time expired Jun 5 12:12:05.884: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 1: Neighbor 1yy.26.120.217 (FastEthernet4/1/0) is down: peer restarted Jun 5 12:12:06.944: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 1: Neighbor 1yy.26.120.217 (FastEthernet4/1/0) is up: new adjacency Jun 5 12:12:34.165: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 65000: Neighbor 1xx.50.20.1 (Serial1/0/1) is up: new adjacency

from the logging , you can see at 11:56:00 . my client paste "no distribute-list out xx" , then AS65000's neighbor to R4 become down because holding time expired. after 16 minute. my client reset the neighborship between R2 and R3. at

12:12. then R3 and R4 estabish neighbor again.

So why eigrp AS1 's configuration change will influence another Eigrp AS 65000 's neighbor?

Hope some Network Expert could help me. Thanks !

Hi This problem is resolved. Today my client told me the reason of strange eigrp is HQ's cisco 8850 WAN switch power off. But this is a very amazing coincidence I never see before. So this problem lead to a Power problem not Eigrp problem. You know my client afraid of HQ's administrator. My client thought there is his fault. But in fact. there is a fault at HQ side. Haha.
