802.1Q Tunneling on two C6509 running CatOS 8.4(3)

I have setup an 802.1Q tunnel on two Catos 8.4(3) 6509 as follows:

| WS-SUP720-BASE | | WS-SUP720-BASE | | WS-X6704-10ge | ----- 10GBASE-ER ----- | WS-X6704-10GE | | WS-X6548-GE-TX | | WS-X6248-RJ-45 | | | | | FE trunk C3550-1 FE trunk C3550-2

On both CatOS I've configured

set port dot1qtunnel x/y access set vlan Z x/y

Vlan Z is only used on the dot1qtunnel ports.

Whereas I can see rx and tx on Catalyst C3550-1, I only see tx on Catalyst C3550-2.

On C3550-2 Aug 1 19:03:55 UTC: IP ARP: sent req src 192.168.51.1 0012.d9af.d700, dst 192.168.51.2 0000.0000.0000 Vlan901

On C3550-1 Aug 1 19:03:55 UTC: IP ARP: rcvd req src 192.168.51.1 0012.d9af.d700, dst 192.168.51.2 Vlan901 Aug 1 19:03:55 UTC: IP ARP: sent rep src 192.168.51.2 000b.becc.4a00, dst 192.168.51.1 0012.d9af.d700 Vlan901

I've configured another pair of dot1qtunnels and got the same result. RX/TX on one end. Only TX on the other.

The 10 GE dot1q trunk is carrying traffic for two other vlans.

If configuring both C3550 FE ports as acess port, I get a connection immediately?

Do I have to enable the 10GE ports for jumbo frames? I'm hesitating to do so as there is heavy traffic on the trunk and I don't know which side effects enabling for jumbo frames has.

Best regards, Arnold
