When you turn on a DSL modem

On the typical DSL line, what happens when you turn on the modem? Not the first time you've ever used it. Just after you've turned it off a few hours.

Thank you

Viewed from the outside, my Actiontec GT701 appears to do things in this order:

  1. It boots [it runs Linux]
  2. It starts synching up with the DSL signal from the phone company
  3. It enables the LAN and wireless
  4. Once the DSL circuit is synched, it authenticates with my ISP
  5. The WAN is enabled and I'm online.
