Linksys router used as WAP?

have an old Linksys wireless router BEFW11S4 that would just like to use as a WAP to extend a home LAN.

So I reset it, and plug it in to a PC via one of the 4 ports, but cant browse to 192.168.1.1 to get to setup screen, or even ping this address, yet green lights are on and blinking to show some traffic.

I know this router was working back when. What could be the reason that the 192.168.1.1 page doesnt come up? Does it need a WAN connection? Should it show with only a LAN connection?

More then likely its you NIC cards cofiguration. What is the IP and subnet of your NIC? Or it could be that your using a crossover cable.

- make sure the LAN IPs of the routers are NOT the same (eg 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3 and so on)

- expanding the network is done by connecting LAN ports of your routers, don't use the WAN port of the "extending" router

It's possible your routers are using identical LAN addresses, so there's a conflict in that way If the routers LAN addresses are very different (192.168.0.1 and

192.168.1.1) then they are too different, so it might be hard to find it Only enable ONE routers DHCP function
