Like all good jokes, this one is based on actual fact. Many municipalities are running fiber through the sewers. Search Google for "fiber through the sewer":

Running blown fiber through new conduits installed in much larger existing sewer tunnels isn't a new concept, yes. But the premise of flushing fiber down the toilet to connect to that fiber cable isn't. LOL
