I am doing a research for my father who travels a lot in U.S. and outsideof it.Is there a device that lets travellers to use his/her laptop/notebook on theInternet anywherewirelessly without carrying and hooking up devices and cables to a cellularphone. Not everywherehas wireless hotspots to connect to, so cellular phones conenctions would haveto be. Cost andInternet speed (e.g., Web surfing, e-mails, etc.) should be decent. The OS isWindows XP MediaCenter and a Toshiba Satellite Pentium 4 I think.Currently, GoMadic has a device but it is a hassle to carry the cables,connectors, device, etc.Also, it is easy to break due to a lot of travelling. At least with a PCMCIAcard, it is bundledin the laptops/notebooks like those onboard wireless network interfaces forwireless networks.Thank you in advance. :)

Verizon Wireless has a broadband PCMCIA card. Some laptops come withthe card built in. My Son says there is a Linksys router that supportsthe Verizon card. I have Verizon broadband on my pocketpc. Sounds kindaneat, no longer looking for a WIFI hot spot.

sprint has what they call a "connection card" which is basically a high speed cellular modem for your laptop used to get "near broadband" speeds in areas that support "near broadband" speeds ie EVDO

Why do you think this is even remotely a solution? Just guessing, what percent of the US do you think is covered by Sprint's EVDO network? Does that qualify in your mind as 'anywhere'?
