A look at the blogosphere telle me that Verizon users are very unhappy about the way that Verizon is handling recovery efforts in New York and/or New Jersey.
One blogger, named "DudleyDorite," complained that
As bad as ConEd was at restoring power, they at least had a communication system in place to both report and track the service loss and when it might be restored... does anyone know of an effective way to get Verizon's attention?
So, it appears that the ire of Verizon customers has not yet started to melt.
