Technically, the AT&T Wireless and Cingular companies merged, so your contract with AT&T Wireless still survives. Just because the final company happens to have a different name doesn't change anything.

In addition, I bet if you read the contract closely, it allows AT&T Wireless to assign the contract to someone else (i.e., they could "sell" you).
