I always felt that the one thing we really need is total separation of bandwidth providers from content providers -- in these days of modern times bits is bits, who cares if it is voice or data, TV or internet, allowing the content providers to also control the bandwidth restricts your choices and enables the providers to price gouge to their hearts content.
(Of course, as long as all the politicians are for sale to the highest bidder, this is one telcom reform we'll never get :-).
