AT&T: Cell service outage in Donaldsonville area caused by fiber optic cut in Baton Rouge [telecom]

DONALDSONVILLE, LA - Some AT&T wireless customers in the Donaldsonville area experienced a service outage Wednesday after a state Department of Transportation contractor cut a fiber optic line on Essen Lane in Baton Rouge, roughly 40 miles away from the Ascension Parish city, authorities said.

Though across the Mississippi River, the Donaldsonville outage happened while the contractor was replacing a section of a Baton Rouge sidewalk, AT&T spokeswoman Tarvis Thompson said.
