Verizon and AT&T are often put in the same sentence, as two highly competitive companies of similar size in the same industry. These companies have similar dividends and trade at near-identical price-to-earnings multiples, so many investors figure picking Verizon or AT&T for a portfolio is a flip of a coin. While that might have been true in the past, recent moves by both companies make this assumption outdated.
