Specifics on SPM/OC-3 syncronization alarms ...

Howdy,

We're trying to line timing four Nortel DMS-500 SPM modules with four OC-3 multiplexers in a bidirectional protection mode terminal application.

For this application the OC-3 multiplexer is externally timed off a 1.544 BITS clock [pri/sec] and OC-3 line timing this group of four DMS-500 SPM modules. This is the only way to clock these SPMs.

The OC-3 multiplexers DS-1 drops will feed voice, PRI, BRI, etc to local customers from this C.O.

The DMS-500 SPMs are continuously reporting alarms relating to synchronization failures, protection switches, synchronization success achieved, etc, over and over again from copies 0->1 and 1->0 on the OC-3 feeds from the multiplexer to the SPM modules.

These OC-3 muxes were tested interfacing a Cisco 15454 ONS (OC-3 trunks from another node) and the 15454 did not report any sync problems.

Is there any on-line documentation explaining in more detail DMS-500 SPM logging regarding synchronization problems? Specifically why a particular sync error occurred?

Thanks in advance, C:\\
