Has anyone here ever run FICON or Fibre Channel on the OPTera 5200 DWDM system? I'm wondering if the 5200 OCI cards, when configured for FICON, will signal lock with the initiator on the mainframe side? In that model the 5200 would be similar to a switch, with the 5200 on the far end then initiating to the equipment. Or will the 5200 simply pass the signal straight through without ever synching to the initiator?
When we attach the 5200 to an IBM Z900 mainframe, running the 2319 2 Gbit card, we get a signal lock message from the OM5200. The IBM card is supposed to autonegotiate down to 1 Gbit. I'm not sure if the problem is due to the far end equipment not being attached yet, or is the problem that the mainframe side of the OPTera is failing to signal lock with the mainframe.
