Websebse reporting capabilities

My company is investigating several packages to monitor employee internet usage. Websense seems to be the most promising candidate but most reviews don't address the details of usage reporting. Managers want a concise report in the form of a "total usage time" but calculating that value can be tricky.



Some of the less sophisticated packages we've looked use a simple-minded "price per click" method which essentially logs a set number of minutes for each web request. This can obviously yield misleading results and angry managers!



Is there anyone that has experience with Websense that can give me an idea of how a single usage time is determined and the level of control the admin has over the calculation of this value?

Any of the packages are good, just dont use CyBlock, unless your admins know something about security, because the program opens a gaping security hole, which creates an open relay where anyone would be able to surf through your proxy unless your firewall blocked access from the outside. Before using any proxy-based product, make sure that it does not open a gaping security hole like CyBlock does

The problem you are going to run into is people that open to a site that has active content where it refreshes every X seconds - it will look like they are active on the web and in reality they may have the browser minimized.

Why don't you just implement content filtering and setup Allowed sites through the firewall? This would mean that your employees can't screw- off and are limited to business approved sites - and most companies don't need to allow access to Yahoo, MSN, Dell, POGO, etc... Most have no valid business reason to allow all employees access to the web.
