Mabon, These days so many computer literate people are free and have lots of time. They are always ready to attack you computer. It is wise to install SpyBot Search and Destroy and Spyware Guard on your system. Activate system settings prevention and SypBot Tea Timer feature in SpyBot Search and Destroy (Anti spyware software, freeware). This will prevent your system as it asks every time any software,may be good or bad, try to change system settings. It then asks weahter to allow or deny the change. If you suspect any unwanted change just deny it. Thus even if trojan comes in it will not be able to change system settings for it to work and thus render it unoperative to make any damage to the system.

Ditching the virus, spambot, spyware and patch magnet Windose is also a good start......

Most of what you believe to be attacks are scans, normal network noise and virus/worm activities caused by infected machines that are run by _illeterate_ users.
