Firewall rules ~ Fresh XP install

Hello,

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm setting up firewall rules for a SOHO and have a few questions about outgoing TCP on a fresh XP install when you reach the desktop on boot.

This is a DSL network with a router gateway.

When you start up XP there are at least 5 lookups (TCP:80 outgoing) to what I imagine are backbone servers. These for example:

SBC 66.142.247.254 Akamai 80.67.81.0 - 80.67.95.255 Level 3 64.158.92.62

All SVCHOST.EXE (14kb)

My rules so far only allow DNS to poll the router (UDP:53).

Also there is a Hotmail out that I have blocked. What is that I wonder? TCP:80,443 Outgoing 64.4.20.0 - 64.4.24.255

Once again all these occur after you first login to the desktop. I have already allowed for MS Update (WAU). Thanx in advance for enlightenment, happy holidays.
