Why are HP fibre cables so expensive?

Hello fibre folk.

I've been asked whay HP charge nearly ten times the price for their fibre channel optic cables.

I've searched groups and the web with no real success.

Anybody any ideas?

Help appreciated!

Thanks!

Mal.

Because they can.

It's HP, people will buy from them, and they can get away with it.

Alternatively it is such a small part of their income they have not seriously looked at re-pricing it for a number of years. Normally I'd expect them to only be 2-3 times more expensive :-)

cheers

David

Because they're HP and they can!! Seriously, most organizations the size of HP aren't really in the jumper/patch cable business; they outsource the cable assembly and probably re-sell the cables for at least double their cost.
