SGMII carrying 10/100 ethernet traffic

Hello everybody,

I have a doubt relating to SGMII protocol. When this protocol is used in carrying 10/100 traffic, data is repeated. Now considering SGMII interface is 8b10b encoded e.g. 88E1111 part from Marvell, which runs this interface at 1.25 Gbps, i have following conjecture :

a) Does packet data have each byte repeated and then converted to 8b10b encoding leaving valid 10 bit coded stream.

b) Is data converted to 10 bits first and then each 10 bit symbol is repeated ? This will have RD errors.

c) Is data converted to 10 bits and each single bit is repeated 10/100 times ? This will have RD and Code errors !

Thanks, sharad
