Team Requesting Help Cisco 3750 one way ping

I am adding a newly installed 3750 switch to a layer 3 6509 switch via fiber in addition I have created a new VLAN on swiitch and added the vlan to the MSFC.



They are using trasparent mode for the vtp mode



Here is my problem I have a Cisco 3750 that I am trunking to a 6509 switch.



I can not ping my msfc from my switch, in addition I can not ping the locally attached workstation



I can ping from my workstation to the msfc, and other devices in the network, but I can not recieve pings from other devices in the network only the MSFC from my laptop


I recieve my dhcp request and can surf the net so I know that I don't have a connectivity problems.

Hello,

you might want to configure the 6509 as VTP server, and the 3750 as VTP client. I think the problem is that, since the VTP mode is transparent, no VLAN information is exchanged. Make sure the VTP domain name (case-sensitive) matches on both sides...

Post results of the following tests:

  2. from new 3750 switch, ping MSFC VLAN 2 IP address 10.1.175.1 (its default gateway) ???
  3. from your PC, ping 3750 VLAN 2 IP address 10.1.175.9 ???

This reads like a routing problem. Check the routing table 3750 and

6509 MSFCs. The 3750 doesn't have a layer 3 interface in vlan 113 which forces it to follow it's routing table to the 6509. For the 3750 to ping a client on same switch it has to follow its routing table and route traffic to 10.1.175.1 and 1.175.1.10 (I'm assuming this a typo). Create a vlan113 interface on the 3750 and try pinging a client and the MSFC's vlan113 IP. Next check the 6509 to see if it has a layer-3 vlan2 interface in the MSFC and that it is up. Also doublecheck the allowed vlans and make sure that vlan2 is permitted on the 6509s interface. J

Guy's thanks so much, I later figured out the problem, but you were correct I needed to add an IP address to VLAN interface 113. I forgot we had ran out of IP address for orginal vlan 2.
