switching insanity... funny stuff

I have recently encountered folks that have applied the principals of ip routing to ethernet switching and devised the craziest notions. They have said that a switch need not know the mac addresses of remote hosts, but only the mac addresses of connected switches. They say connected switches perform mac nat for the remote hosts and mac tables are shared between switches as a method of actively learning host destinations. Some of these people have really good high-level networking jobs. O, the insanity!
