I have just been bombarded by the IPS word today. Have just done some initial reading up on the subject, but one thing I don't understand is our network guys want to install the IPS appliances between our web servers and the database servers, whereas, I would have thought the best place to put them would be in front of the web servers, as this is the principal point of gaining access?
What do we gain by putting these in front of backend servers?
