Help Pix 501 Newbie VPN

I have been struggling for 2 days to get this VPN working

Have Pix 501 setup on local network with no server Want to connect from XP unit remotely - hopefully using RDC to connect to various machines. Will use with the VPN Client 4.8 or MS VPN... External IP 10.0.0.x Internal Pix 192.168.1.1 VPN Pool

192.168.2.1-10

I can connect via pptp but cannot ping the PIX, VPN Client - I don't even connect, but have blown away the config so many times that it may not be correct.! If anyone has suggestions, please respond. I think I have just read the info enough times that it is no longer making sense.

  1. This won't fix your problem, but I would upgrade your pix to 6.3.(4) if you can. I've never owned a 501 so I don't know what it will take.

  1. Without seeing your network, I would start with your access list. You have your VPN group in 192.168.2.x. About that, you have a crypto map denying traffic to that network.

PIX 6.3(5) is the latest

I can't really upgrade this unit at this time, but I can really just use the PPTP protocol to connect, but like I said - when I connect and authenticate - it just takes down the local pc internet as well as not being able to ping/use the remote pix network. Ideally, what I want to do is connect via the internet to the 501, then be able to RDC into other PC's on the network.

I will look at the crypto again.
