GRE tunnels to OpenBSD problem

Jan 17, 2009 0 Replies

Greetings,

I need to troubleshoot a GRE tunnel carrying PIM-SM traffic between our OpenBSD border router and the remote's Cisco router. The remote admin is unable to sniff the wire or dump packets. On this end we can de-encapsulate his traffic and PIM HELLOs are received; on the remote end the admin says he sees increasing packet counts and no errors, but sees no HELLOs. Sniffing the wire on this end shows correctly encapsulated (based on RFC) PIM HELLOs going to him.

Various OpenBSD mailing lists have reports of GRE interroperability failures with Cisco boxes, most are never reported fixed or even diagnosed.

Is someone willing to set up a test GRE tunnel with us and look at the traffic for analysis? We and other waiting OpenBSD users would appreciate some solutions.

Regards,
