802.1Q Trunk Packets

Nov 08, 2008 2 Replies

Hi all,

Is that possible for any untagged packets passing through a 802.1Q trunk port or they must be tagged?

TIA.

Whatever the trunk is using for it's native vlan passes untagged.

Thanks for your answer Brian. If you don't mind, would you give me some hints regarding the following:

If the ingress packets are tagged with native VID, will the trunk port take out the VLAN tag and then pass them through?

If the ingress packets are untagged, will the trunk port treat them as native VLAN packets and then let them go or simply dropped all of them?

Thanks again!
