SMLT

Hi,

Can anyone tell me wether or not you can run SMLT between Passport

1600 distribution switches and 5500 routing switch stacks, or do you need 8600 chassis in the core?

thanks

Dave

The 5500 series don't support SMLT links or IST. I think the 1600 series don't support it either. The 8600 series do support it. You can create a SMLT link from 2 8600 series switches, connected to on another with an IST, to a 1600 or 5500 series switch.

Not today, but I heard it is coming to the 1600 and 5500 series.

Yaeh, I have been hearing any day now for a long time, I wish they would hurry.

I do appriciate getting reliable hardware to market but I needed yesterday myself.

Also, Anyone heard of Nortel releasing a POE version of the 470-48T switch ? Heard they were and need a 48 port POE switch a little less than the 5520, really do not need Gigabit and pay that much to hook up a bunch of IP phones.

Thanks
