How to set Zonealarm to allow connections to http server?

I used to have Zonealarm set up to allow connections to my http server from any IP but now since I reinstalled the server and firewall it is blocking access to the server and I would like to be able to allow clients to see their website during production by just checking their address on the server. Can someone give me some help on how to do this again?

Thanks :)

Hi Jason,

I understand that you guys >> I used to have Zonealarm set up to allow connections to my http server

Go to add/remove programs and uninstall zonealarm. Then go to add external firewall box/appliance. If you can't find that then you've got a bit of learning to do.

Well learn about it then. When I first had to configure zonealarm (for someone else) to allow access to a web server (many years ago) I found that it was near impossible because zonealarm didn't come with any help which explained how to configure it to do what I wanted to do. In fact the help seemed to do little more than reflect what was already present in the configuration settings. Like "To allow incoming ping, tick the "allow incoming ping box"". After much help from external port scanning sites I did eventually manage to do it but it's unlikely that the version you have is the same version. If you want to learn, then zonealarm is not a good place to start. In my experience it is not a teaching tool, it is a tool to extract money from unsuspecting people. If you search hard enough on zonelabs site then you are likely to find that they do not recommend using their home user products to protect web servers. If you want to learn then get a real firewall.

That was really helpful. :) What do you recommend as a "real" firewall?

An external box. Either a ready made appliance or, if you have the time and the patience to build it, an old PC with two or more network cards running suitable software (not Windows). For the best learning experience choose the second option. For the easiest and fastest solution choose the first.
