According to the PCMCIA organization it is called obsolete. Pure rubbish and nonsense. Just as bad as IBM trying to set standards. And PCMCIA ripped their standards from the Japanese JEIDA standards. Apparently they don't want you to know this and have created ExpressCard to hide the truth and wants to sweep the PC Card thing under the rug. That is okay, those who wants to remain clueless will never be the wiser. :)

WOL also works with earlier APM (spec freely available at ), not just ACPI, or without either standard given appropriate system design.

LOL, the thin clients I referred to at Costco are actually the second most popular thin clients, after ones from Wyse. They certainly are capable, hardware-wise of WOL, but it just isn't used, and has been explicitly disabled in the BIOS. It's too risky for businesses to allow POS terminal being turned on remotely, especially those where cash is kept in the drawer.

No one blames John for being unfamiliar with all the various vagaries of thin clients, before I was designing them there were a lot of issues I would never have thought of, especially in the areas of power-on issues, back-up power, booting, and security. The issue is more that he pretends to know about things that he actually knows almost nothing about.

No John MAC addresses do not come from ARP. ARP resolves IP addresses to MAC addresses.

And that is what I have observed, and have called him on. I was reading your thread with the other person and seen you were talking about thin clients/dumb terminal type of devices, and then that was when John jumped in with his wake on lan which is a different technology than what you were discussing.

And like John was exposed real quickly for not having a very good understanding of what was being discussed, they are outed very quickly as being all talk and no substance.
