U.S. to allow Americans to mail cellphones to relatives in Cuba [Telecom]

"WASHINGTON: President George W. Bush announced Wednesday that Americans soon would be allowed to send cellular telephones to their relatives in Cuba, a move intended to challenge the new Cuban leader, Raúl Castro, to make good on promised reforms by giving ordinary Cubans the freedom to communicate with one another and the outside world."

Here's my question. Will relatives send the right cell phones? What technology do they use in Cuba? What bands?

A quick look at the Cubacel web site shows that they have TDMA and GSM service. TDMA is gone pretty much everywhere else, so any unlocked GSM 900 phone should work.

Thanks. c.d.t. readers are just more resourceful than I am. :-) I couldn't mind much information about cell service in Cuba.
