History push button groceries 1959 [telecom]

Nov 27, 2019 0 Replies

Automatic Electric Co. ran an ad touting its "push button" grocery system. It used telephone switching technology.

The items would be lifted from the shelf, collected, packaged, and delivered to the check out counter with a totalized sales slip.

By 1959 AE was a subsidiary of GTE.

(Also, Bell Telephone ad for long distance conference calls on page 2.)
