Until about 1960, the Automatic Electric Company was headquartered in a building in downtown Chicago on West Van Buren Street. They moved out to North Lake, Ill.
I saw a blurb that the complex is being converted into apartments:
A sign calls it "The Automatic Lofts". Their blurb says it was the company's location.
Has anyone here ever dealt with AECO years back? Bitsavers.org recently uploaded two AECO publications from the 1930s. Interesting reading. One includes a drawing of the complex:
Also, the Strowger Switch
According to googlestreetview, the buildings at W. Van Buren St. near S. Morgan St. seem to be identical to ones shown in the brochure (you can tell by the window and entrance layouts). Googlestreetview is a bit cumbersome to use.
