911 centers swamped from storm [telecom]

A nasty storm hit the northeastern US knocking out power and phone lines.

"Officials say during the height of the storm, some of the 10,000 Nassau County, NY, 911 calls landed in emergency centers as far away as Albany. New York City had the second-highest volume of 911 calls ever in a 24-hour period. "
