Video Evidence Q & A

A hypathetical question . If a DVR picked up what appeared to be drug type deals going on around a property and was reported to local narcotics unit - and within 30 minutes people started to scramble like chickens without heads going in and out of a property as if they got some kind of warning. Would you recommend calling the FBI, and turn over the removable hard drive or would handling the HD be tampering with evidence? Dave

inspired greatness with:

A good DVR records with proprietary watermarks and digital signatures that are transparent to the user. The goal is for the video to be proven authentic in court. These security features will remain if you copy them to the removable media without changing the format, IOW, it's not always necessary to turn over the whole unit unless a major crime is committed and you want to leave absolutely no doubt you tampered with it (in which case the cops will have seized it anyway).
