It's also been pointed out that a brick through the window provides easier access than hacking off digits.

Well, a recent episode of MythBusters managed to open a high end fingerprint lock with a photocopy of a thumbprint Adam stuck on his thumb and licked :-).

The manufacturer claimed the lock had never been defeated, but I guess that just means no one ever tried.
