Hi Not sure where to put a query like this but does anyone know if i can use https for one of my web servers without paying someone like Verisign for a certificate? If I'm happy to get the warning that "the site I am about to enter does not have a valid certificate" can I still use SSL? Thanks Alan

openssl, openca or even win nt server can generate self signed certificates or you can create your own ca (certificate authority) so that your certificate will trigger less warnings.
Maybe not, you need an almost valid certificate (the hostname may be invalid, the time may be expired, ...). If it's only a warning, it could be fine.
