I guess what I'm saying is I'm tired of hearing about personal firewalls. But that's just me, I'm not berating anyone for it, just saying I would welcome a group that was bereft of such discussions, but contained the other content that I see in here.

Those sound very interesting. I don't lump them in with Norton Internet Security and ZoneAlarm. When they're running traffic from other machines

*through* them, I find them of significantly more interest.

Look I'm not trying to change the world here, sorry for expressing my opinion that the topics of ZoneAlarm, "the most preferred free firewall", or the problems with the most recent version of BlackIce, are of a completely different sort than those asking how to configure a NetScreen or a PIX.

I certainly have been. It works out just fine. And it lead me to the idea... wouldn't a separate group be a nice idea? But apparently it upsets people to voice such a concept. I'll keep such musings to myself in future.

No, but obviously you have a problem with implementing a simple filter to get of of almost all of such discussions. Now if some folks would also learn to write the names correctly (or a least match some common mispellings)...

So what do you think would happen? Right, those who would like to do some serious discussions about serious software implementations would be mixed together with the common PFW s*it. Thos who would like discussing about building their own appliances wouldn't know where to post, and so on... that's why de.comp.security.firewall hasn't still been split, besides many requests to do so.

The problem is with the common folk thinking that Personal Firewalls are firewalls and that Usenet is like a support forum.

Alternatively try the GRC newsgroups... lots of discussions about "Personal Firewalls", but don't expect too many people who dare to think different.

Some people like it there, others prefer to learn different points of view :-)
