Networking Newbie . . .

Im sure this absurdly easy, but i just havent cracked it yet!

Im trying to home network 2 PCs together.

Ive got an integrated NI in one, a new system and ive just installed a NIC in the other. I have a cross over cable linking them, theyre both installed and have the right drivers on WIN XP Prof. The Windows network setup wizzard it giving back a message to configure them manually becuase it cant do it. ive tried numerous things to get it going, ive got it so the older systems shares the new ones internet connection, the older one can see the new ones hard drive when its shared etc, but the new machine couldnt explore or see any shared folders of the older system (which has the NIC.)

I used the command prompt to see the IP Addresses, pinged the new machine which was fine, but the old one didnt at all. Its not sharing an IRQ either, ive explored that avenue.

Any input or links to any fool proof guides would be greatly appreciated.

See if XP's built in firewall is on on one of the machines.
